Government

     Saint Lucia is an independent country, having attained its independence from Great Britain on February 22, 1979.  The country is a constitutional monarchy.  Executive power is vested in the British Sovereign as Head of State.  In this regard, Queen Elizabeth II, as head of State is represented in Saint Lucia by Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy. The democratically elected government is headed by Prime Minister, the Honorable Dr. Kenny D. Anthony.*
