Guyana relies heavily on agriculture exports to sustain its economy.
The main products exported by Guyana are rice and Demerara sugar,
bauxite mining, gold mining, timber, shrimp and minerals. The sugar
industry accounts for 28% of all export earnings. Many industries
have a large foreign investment, namely by US, Canadian and Korean
companies.
The
production of natural latex was once big in Guyana, but most of the
balata (natural latex) has been dried up in the North West District
and Kanuku Mountains.
The
Guyanese economy continues to exhibit modest growth rates since its
economic collapse in the late 20th century.
