Economy

The economy of Barbados is historically dependent on the cultivation and production of sugarcane. Recently, the economy has diversified to include the manufacturing and tourism sectors. The government is business-friendly, open to foreign investment and economically sound. Since the 1990s, the island has seen a construction boom, with the development and redevelopment of hotels, offices and homes in order to accommodate increased tourism and foreign investment.
