The economy of
Barbados is historically dependent on the cultivation and
production of sugarcane. Recently, the economy has diversified to
include the manufacturing and tourism sectors. The government is
business-friendly, open to foreign investment and economically
sound. Since the 1990s, the island has seen a construction boom,
with the development and redevelopment of hotels, offices and
homes in order to accommodate increased tourism and foreign
investment.
