A tiny isle about 20 minutes by boat from Belize City is St.
George's Caye, where Spain made its last-ditch effort to conquer Belize
on Sep. 10, 1978. British settlers prevailed at the Battle of St.
George's Caye; Belizeans commemorate this battle annually. Today, the
island is invaded for swimming, diving, snorkeling or just relaxing on
the beach.
