Folklore
Music:
Haitian Compas is a musical and dance genre. It
involves mostly medium to fast tempo beats with emphasis on electric
guitars, synthesizers, and a horn. Haiti's music bears similarities to
its Spanish-speaking neighbors, yet with its blend of Creole and
African beats, is unique in its own right.
Festivals:
Carnival, which starts in February, is one of
the most festive times of year in the country. The cities are filled
with music, parade floats and people dancing.
Vodou:
Although Christianity is widespread, many people, especially in the
rural areas, practice Vodou (Voodoo). Vodou attempts to explain the
forces of the universe, to influence there forces and influence human
behavior.
