Alejandro Miró Quesada Cisneros was born on
September 24, 1944 in Lima, Peru. He received his Bachelor of Arts
degree from la Universidad Católica de Peru in 1963, and began working
for the daily newspaper “El Comercio” as a writer for the sports section
in 1965. In 1968 he obtained graduate degrees in law and political
science from la Universidad Católica and Universidad Nacional Mayor de
San Marcos.
In 1972 he founded the documentary film production
company, Productora Documenta (Documentary Productions).
In July 1974 when “El Comercio” was seized by the
military government Miró Quesada switched his focus to film and
television. Meanwhile, he was named Production Director at Cinesetenta,
a leading producer of commercials.
In 1978, after founding InterGallup, a market
research company that represented Gallup International in Peru, he
became President of its board of directors.
When the Peruvian newspapers were returned to their
proprietors in 1980, Miró Quesada returned to “El Comercio.” In 1987 he
was named assistant editor, and in 1999 he became editor.
He joined the board of directors of the Inter
American Press Association (IAPA) in 1986. From 1986 to 1999 he served
as vice-president of the IAPA’s Peruvian Committee on Freedom of the
Press, and from 1999 to 2001, he served as committee chairman to its
Chapultepec Committee. In October of 2002 he was named second vice
president of the IAPA and the following October was promoted to first
vice president at the annual assembly in Chicago. Miró Quesada was
elected President of the IAPA in October 2004.
