Mr. Clare K. Roberts became the first citizen of Antigua and Barbuda to assume the
presidency of the OAS Inter-American Human Rights Commission on February
24, 2005. In his presentation at the inauguration of the 122nd Regular
Period of Sessions, Mr. Roberts reviewed the progress and challenges of
the Commission and outlined the key issues required for strengthening the
regional human rights system-including the importance of achieving
universal ratification of the regional human rights treaties. Mr.
Roberts, a former independent Senator, also served in the position of
Attorney General and Minister of Justice and Legal Affairs as well as
Solicitor General of Antigua and Barbuda.
