TWELFTH INTER-AMERICAN CONFERENCE OF MINISTERS OF LABOR
(Resolution adopted at the third plenary session, held on
June 5, 2001;
subject to review by the Style Committee)
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
HAVING SEEN the Strategic Plan for Partnership for
Development 1997-2001; the Declaration and Plan of Action of
Viņa del Mar adopted by the Ministers of Labor at the Eleventh
Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor; resolution
RESDA-XI/RES. 5/00 of the Meeting to Follow-up on the Decisions
Adopted by the Eleventh Inter-American Conference of Ministers
of Labor; the Declaration of Quebec City and the Plan of Action
signed by the Heads of State and Government at the Third Summit
of the Americas; and resolutions CIDI/RES. 90 (V-O/00) and CIDI/RES.

CONSIDERING that at the Third Summit of the Americas in
Quebec City, the Heads of State and Government reaffirmed the
fundamental importance of the Inter-American Conference of
Ministers of Labor, supported the preparatory process for the
Twelfth Conference in 2001, and directed the ministers to build
upon the Viņa del Mar Declaration by collaborating in the
examination of the labor dimension of the Summit of the Americas
process in order to identify areas of agreement and issues where
further work needs to be done;
TAKING INTO ACCOUNT:
That resolution CIDI/RES. 90 (V-O/00) provided for the
holding of the Twelfth Inter-American Conference of Ministers of
Labor in 2001 in Canada;
That resolution CIDI/RES. 95 (V-O/00) recommended to the OAS
General Assembly that it approve the necessary resources in the
2001 program-budget for holding the Twelfth Inter-American
Conference of Ministers of Labor; and
That the Government of Canada confirmed its offer to host the
above-mentioned meeting,
RESOLVES:
1. To take note that CIDI has convened the Twelfth
Inter-American Conference of Ministers of Labor to be held in
Ottawa, Canada, from October 17 to 19, 2001.
2. To instruct the General Secretariat, through the Unit for
Social Development and Education and in coordination with the
Executive Secretariat for Integral Development (SEDI), to
provide the Ministers of Labor with all the necessary technical
and secretariat support for preparatory and follow-up meetings
on the mandates of the Second and Third Summit of the Americas,
contained in the sections on labor.
3. To recommend to the member states to promote, with the
support of the Unit for Social Development and Education in
coordination with the Inter-American Agency for Cooperation and
Development (IACD), the preparation of multilateral projects
related to the Summits mandates.
4. To request CIDI to report on the implementation of this
resolution to the General Assembly at its thirty-second regular
session.
