FOOD FESTIVAL OF THE AMERICAS RETURNS TO OAS APRIL 30

The annual Food Festival of the Americas returns to the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) in Northwest Washington, D.C., on Sunday, April 30, courtesy of the Organization of Women of the Americas (OMA).  

The  Food Festival gives the Washington Area public a chance to experience the rich diversity of cuisine, music and dances from the countries of the hemisphere. Admission is free. 

A silent auction is part of this eighth edition of the Food Festival, which also includes a raffle boasting attractive prizes such as two round-trip Business Class tickets—New York/Miami to South America (on TAM); two round trip Economy Class Tickets from BWI to Bahamas,  with 3-night vacation package at Pelican Bay Resort (AIR TRAN);  one round trip Economy Class ticket from DCA to the Caribbean (Air Jamaica); one round trip Economy Class ticket from DCA to Latin America  (Continental); two round trips Economy Class tickets from DCA to any destination in US, Canada, Mexico, Bermuda or Bahamas (American Airlines) and one round trip Economy Class ticket from DCA to the Caribbean (American Airlines).  

Raffle tickets can be purchased beforehand or at the event itself, for $10 each. 

All proceeds from sales of food, crafts and raffle tickets and the silent auction will be donated to charitable organizations.  The main beneficiary this year will be the Pediatric Clinic of the Hispanic Catholic Center of Washington, D.C., an organization catering to needy Latin American and Caribbean people in the Washington metropolitan area. 

Over the years, the Food Festival of the Americas has benefited the Mary Center of Washington, the Caribbean American Intercultural Organization, the Art Museum of the Americas, the OAS program to help landmine victims in Central America, the Hispanic Catholic Center of Washington, D.C., Mother Teresa’s Place, and the Time to Fly Foundation. 

The Food Festival of the Americas is sponsored by: Radio América 1540 AM,  the Brazilian airline TAM, Air Jamaica, Air Tran, Better Events Catering, Odebrecht, Banco do Brasil, Confianza Moving, Solar Tours, the OAS Credit Union,  American Airlines,  Modelo Beer Co. of  Mexico and Coca-Cola. 

The Organization of Women of the Americas is a non-profit organization founded by the wives of ambassadors and permanent observers to the OAS and other supporting members. Its current President is Mrs. Zulay de Valero, wife of the Venezuelan Ambassador to the OAS, Jorge Valero.
