OAS Launches Scholarship Program for Haitian Students

  May 17, 2011

The Organization of American States (OAS) has launched a scholarship program for Haitian students to conduct online academic studies, professional development, and teacher training with the goal of contributing to the Caribbean nation’s ability to reconstruct the country after the devastating earthquake of January 2010.

Through the OAS Emergency Scholarship Program for Haiti, the hemispheric Organization will award scholarships for on-line academic studies (Master’s degrees), as well as professional development and teacher training in partnership with accredited educational institutions. Only Haitian nationals living in Haiti are eligible to apply.

The program seeks to partner with OAS Member States, observer countries, educational and philanthropic institutions, and corporations to offer distance education scholarships to Haitians living in Haiti to assist them in contributing to the immediate reconstruction of their country. The fields of study vary and are selected by the National Liaison Office of Haiti for OAS scholarship activities, namely the “Ministère de la Planification et de la Coopération Externe.”

As part of the program, Laval University is offering 60 full scholarships to Haitian students living in Haiti to study for an online Master’s degree in International Development Management. The Laval deadline for applications is June 15. More information is available here.

The OAS has established a Computer Center at “l’Ecole Supérieure d’Infotronique d’Haiti” to provide computer and Internet access to scholarship recipients so they may participate in this Scholarship Program.

Information on these scholarship opportunities has been published on the following OAS websites, in English and French:
