The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today congratulated the government and people of Colombia for the military operation conducted in recent days against the guerrilla of the Armed Revolutionary Forces of Colombia (FARC).

The head of the hemispheric organization said that “with this event the FARC must become convinced that the armed road they are on is closing in on them, and that the freeing of hostages is a first step towards a process of dialogue and political negotiation as proposed by President Juan Manuel Santos."

According to information provided by the Colombian government, various members of the FARC were killed in the operation, which was conducted in the department of Meta in the central region of the country, among them Jorge Briceño “Mono Jojoy,” considered the organization’s military chief.
