OAS Secretary General to Travel to Costa Rica, Colombia and Haiti

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, today begins a trip to Costa Rica, Colombia and Haiti, where he will meet with those countries’ presidents.

In Costa Rica, the topmost representative of the hemispheric organization will be welcomed by President Laura Chinchilla Miranda, and he will attend a meeting of specialists from the Follow-up Mechanism to the Convention Belém do Pará.

Also, he will meet with the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, whose permanent headquarters are in San José, and he will deliver a lecture at the Inter-American Institute of Human Rights.

In Colombia, Secretary General Insulza will be welcomed by President Juan Manuel Santos, and he will meet with Vice President Angelino Garzón, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, María Ángela Holguín, and the President of the Senate, Armando Benedetti.

Similarly, he will meet with the team from the OAS Mission to Support for the Peace Process in Colombia (MAPP/OEA).

In Haiti, the Secretary General will be welcomed by President René Préval, Primer Minister Jean-Max Bellerive, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marie Michele Rey.
