OAS and Brazil Promote Initiatives of Cooperation in the Countries of the Continent
June 8, 2010
The General Secretariat of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Government of Brazil today signed an agreement aimed at promoting initiatives of cooperation of a triangular nature in the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean through the use of financial, technical and human resources of the Government of Brazil.
The Memorandum of Understanding between Brazil and the OAS on the Implementation of Activities of Triangular Technical Cooperation in Third Countries was signed in the framework of the 40th OAS General Assembly by the Secretary General of the hemispheric organization, José Miguel Insulza, and the Secretary General of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Antonio de Aguiar Patriota.
“This cooperation has tremendous possibilities, especially when we talk about projects related to the sharing of experiences in the social and economic sectors,” Secretary General Insulza said. “Brazil today is helping smaller countries with a lower capacity for development in the areas of renewable energy, and we believe that shows great generosity.”
The Brazilian representative affirmed that the signed agreement “opens possibilities of triangular cooperation to us. The government of Brazil is intensifying its technical cooperation with countries of the Americas, in particular with the smallest and most vulnerable ones.”
The signing of the agreement took place in the Museo de la Nación in Lima, host city of the 40th OAS General Assembly.
