OAS to Send a High-Level Commission to Honduras

  June 8, 2010

The Organization of American States (OAS) will send a High-Level Commission to Honduras, a decision made today by the 40th OAS General Assembly at its meeting in Lima.

The full text of the resolution is available here.

The approved resolution charges the Secretary General of the OAS, José Miguel Insulza, with the formation of the Commission, which will have as its objective to analyze "the evolution of the situation" referred to in the resolution issued by the special General Assembly of June 30, 2009, in Washington, DC.

The Commission must present its recommendations to the General Assembly, "no later than July 30th, 2010."

All Member States present in Lima agreed that "the situation in Honduras is a matter of concern for all," and that they "need more information on the current status of the political process in Honduras."

Photos of the event will be available here.
