Foreign Minister Choquehuanca and Assistant Secretary General Ramdin Visit OAS General Assembly Facilities

  May 31, 2012

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bolivia, David Choquehuanca, and the Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Albert Ramdin, today visited the facilities where the forty-second regular session of the General Assembly of the hemispheric organization will be held from June 3 to 5, in the Bolivian city of Cochabamba.

Foreign Minister Choquehuanca and Assistant Secretary General Ramdin expressed satisfaction with the progress made in the preparations. "Bolivia is ready," said the Bolivian minister. "We are very happy with what we found," confirmed the OAS official.

During a press conference prior to the tour of the facilities, both men emphasized the importance of the event to be hosted by Cochabamba, the central theme of which is "Food Security with Sovereignty.” "This General Assembly session affords a special opportunity for member states to discuss their shared concerns in depth and to focus on collective solutions to the scourges afflicting our Hemisphere," said Ambassador Ramdin.

Foreign Minister Choquehuanca stressed that food security "is one of the most sensitive issues in the Hemisphere." "It involves not only studying how we can ensure nutrition but also respecting the decisions of our peoples: what to eat, how to eat, what to use for nutrition," he said.
