OAS and ACS Discuss Collaboration

  May 2, 2012

Officials of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Association of Caribbean States (ACS) met in Port-of-Spain this week to discuss strengthening the relationship between the two institutions.

OAS Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin met with ACS Secretary General Alfonso Múnera Cavadía at the ACS headquarters in Port-of-Spain, where both officials agreed on the need to strengthen the inter-institutional dialogue among the OAS, ACS, CARICOM and SICA.

According to Assistant Secretary General Ramdin, “At an institutional level, we see the value in having solid, worthwhile partnerships. Organizations like these can only be relevant and respond effectively to the needs of the people they serve, if they collaborate and co-operate. The current political and economic environment compels us to strengthen these relationships, in the interest of serving our people well.”

Both the OAS Assistant Secretary General and the ACS Secretary General agreed on the need for mutual support and collaboration in areas of small and medium size enterprise development, female entrepreneurship, and strengthening paths of connectivity among countries in the Caribbean basin.
