Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs to Consider Situation in Venezuela will Take Place on May 31

The Meeting of Consultation of Ministers of Foreign Affairs to consider the situation in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela will be held on Wednesday, May 31 at 14:00 EDT (18:00 GMT) at the headquarters of the Organization of American States (OAS) In Washington, DC, as agreed today by the Permanent Council of the hemispheric body.

The place and date of the meeting were adopted by a roll-call vote of 18 in favor, 1 against, and 13 abstentions. The Permanent Missions of Argentina, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Brazil, Canada, Chile, Colombia, United States, Honduras, Guatemala, Guyana, Jamaica, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay voted in favor.
Nicaragua voted against and the representatives of Antigua and Barbuda, Bolivia, Costa Rica, Dominica, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, the Dominican Republic, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname and Trinidad and Tobago abstained.

The Meeting of Consultation of Foreign Ministers, to be held for the twenty-ninth time, is one of the main organs of the Organization of American States,. According to the OAS Charter, the purpose of the Meeting is “to consider problems of an urgent nature and of common interest to the American states, and to serve as the Organ of Consultation.” More information is available here.
