OAS to Hold Conference in Peru on Hemispheric Cooperation against Corruption

The Organization of American States (OAS), through its Department of Legal Cooperation of the Secretariat for Legal Affairs, will hold the "Conference on the Progress and Challenges in Hemispheric Cooperation against Corruption" in the city of Lima, Peru, on June 3 and 4.

The event's inauguration, on Thursday the 3rd at 8:30 (Lima local time) will be attended by OAS Secretary General José Miguel Insulza, the President of the Council of Ministers of Peru, Javier Velásquez Quesquén, and the OAS Secretary for Legal Affairs, Jean Michel Arrighi.

The event marks a crucial stage in the technical cooperation program that has been developed by the Secretariat for Legal Affairs of the OAS to support the Member States of the Follow-Up Mechanism to the Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC) in the implementation of the recommendations formulated by the Committee of Experts through the adoption of national plans of action created with the full participation of the public sector and civil society.

The Conference will include discussion and dialogue panels between national and international experts on issues of transparency and the fight against corruption, as well as national authorities responsible for the formulation of public policy and representatives of nongovernmental organizations, academia and civil society.
