OAS SECRETARY GENERAL TO ATTEND UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY

  September 21, 2009

The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), José Miguel Insulza, will be in New York City from Tuesday, September 22, to Saturday, September 26, to attend the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Secretary General Insulza will attend plenary sessions where Heads of State and Government will speak, as well as several other events, including:

TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 22:

- 8.00 EDT (12.00 GMT) – Launching of the Inter-American Social Protection Network, together with US Secretary of State, Hilary Clinton; President of Chile, Michelle Bachelet; President of Colombia, Alvaro Uribe; and New York City Mayor, Michael Bloomberg, among other high-level officials.

- 9.00 EDT (13.00 GMT) – Opening of the United Nations High-Level Event on Climate Change

- 14.00 EDT (18.00 GMT) – Introductory remarks to Special Address by the President of Colombia Álvaro Uribe Vélez

- 18.00 EDT (22.00 GMT) – Meeting with President of Bolivia, Evo Morales
