Government of Costa Rica, OAS and Council of Europe Organize Regional Workshop on Cybersecurity and Cybercrime
March 6, 2012
The government of Costa Rica, with the support of the Secretariat of the Inter-American Committee against Terrorism (CICTE) of the Organization of American States (OAS) and the Council of Europe, will organize a Regional Workshop on Cybersecurity and Cybercrime from March 7-9 in the Costa Rican capital. The president of Costa Rica and the OAS Assistant Secretary General will preside over the closing ceremony.
The event, which will feature participation of representatives from Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, and Venezuela, aims to strengthen policies, strategies, and laws related to cybersecurity and cybercrime. The workshop intends to promote the exchange of information, coordination, and cooperation between relevant national authorities, including Cyber Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs) and law enforcement agencies. Among additional goals, organizers hope that participants will reevaluate the legal instruments that allow for an effective prosecution and law enforcement of cybercrimes in their respective countries.
The workshop will be inaugurated on March 7 at 9:00 local time (15:00 GMT) by the Minister of Science and Technology of Costa Rica, Alejandro Cruz Molina; Sharon Campbell, Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Costa Rica; and the Director of the Cybersecurity Program of the OAS, Belisario Contreras.
The President of Costa Rica, Laura Chinchilla, and the Assistant Secretary General of the OAS, Albert R. Ramdin, will participate in the closing ceremony, which will be carried out on Friday March 9 at 16:00 local time (22:00 GMT).
