(E-208/01) October 10, 2001   OAS SECRETARY GENERAL EXPRESSES SOLIDARITY WITH CENTRAL AMERICA AND THE CARIBBEAN   The Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), César Gaviria, today expressed his sorrow over the deaths and destruction caused by Hurrican Iris as it passed through Belize, Guatemala and other countries in Central America. "We regret that our Central American and Caribbean brothers and sisters have once again been affected by a force of nature which has left death and desolation in its path," Gaviria said. The Secretary General called on the international community to intensify its emergency relief efforts to help those affected by the storm.     **********
