In view of the announcement by the Bolivian Minister of Information that, for health reasons, President Hugo Bánzer has decided to resign, as of August 6, the Organization of American States expresses its commitment to the government and people of Bolivia to support the next President, Jorge Quiroga, as he seeks to build a stable and stronger democracy in Bolivia.

In times like these, all Bolivians must unite as a nation to bring about a constitutional transition that addresses the needs of the country while ensuring democratic governance.
