During a ceremony Wednesday at the Organization of American States (OAS), the governments of Honduras and Nicaragua will sign two new agreements designed to promote cooperation and development along their border, as well as to foment peaceful relations. The two countries have a territorial dispute which is under consideration by the International Court of Justice.

The Foreign Ministers of Honduras and Nicaragua, Roberto Flores Bermúdez and Francisco Aguirre Sacasa, will sign one agreement establishing a political framework for a binational development plan and another creating additional confidence-building measures between the two countries. The Foreign Ministers, along with OAS Secretary General César Gaviria and Assistant Secretary General Luigi Einaudi, will also present and comment on the report of the OAS International Civilian Verification Mission, which was established earlier this year to monitor compliance with previous confidence-building measures. The mission conducted three on-site visits to both sides of the border to verify the number of military and police installations and personnel deployed there.

             Light lunch will be served.
