OAS ASSISTANT SECRETARY GENERAL TO ADDRESS
INTERNATIONAL LAW COURSE IN BRAZIL

Assistant Secretary General Luigi Einaudi of the Organization of American States will feature among presenters headlining the 28th annual course organized by the Inter-American Juridical Committee (IJC), in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In his main presentation to the participants, Ambassador Einaudi will focus on U.S. human rights policy in the context of the inter-American system.

Under the banner of "Contemporary International Law and the Human Element," the program was inaugurated on July 30 and runs until August 24.

Other presenters at the month-long IJC course included the Chairman of the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights, Claudio Grossman, whose presentation focused on the inter-American human rights system and freedom of expression; former IJC president José Luis Siqueiros who addressed the human dimension of private international arbitration; Nadia de Araujo, international law professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro who spoke on the human dimension of private international law; while IJC member Orlando Rebagliati discussed the proposed International Criminal Court.

Assistant Secretary General Einaudi will also address the closing session on August 24, along with the former Secretary General of the OAS, João Clemente Baena Soares, now a member of the United Nations International Law Commission.

An agency of the OAS, the Rio de Janeiro-based Inter-American Juridical Committee serves as an advisory body on juridical matters; promotes the progressive development and codification of international law; and studies juridical problems associated with the integration of the developing countries of the Hemisphere.
