FOUR OAS COUNTRIES REITERATE THEIR SUPPORT
FOR THE INTER-AMERICAN JURIDICAL SYSTEMThe governments of Argentina, Granada, Guyana and Panama today expressed their support for the inter-American juridical system, by depositing instruments of ratification with the Organization of American States (OAS) relating to four conventions and one agreement.
Argentina's Ambassador to the OAS, Raul Ricardes, deposited his government's instrument of ratification for the Inter-American Convention on the Repatriation of Minors, which was adopted July 15, 1989, in Montevideo, Uruguay, and entered into force on November 4, 1994.
Grenada's Ambassador to the OAS, Denis Antoine, deposited his government's instrument of ratification for the Inter-American Convention on the Prevention, Punishment and Eradication of Violence against Women, which was adapted in Belem do Para, Brazil, on June 9, 1994, which entered into force on March 5, 1995.
Subsequently, Guyana's Ambassador to the OAS, Odeen Ishmael, deposited the instrument of ratification for the Inter-American Convention against Corruption, which was adopted in Caracas, Venezuela, on March 29, 1996, and entered into force on March 6, of the following year.
Finally, Panama's Ambassador to the OAS, Juan Manuel Castulovich, deposited his governments instruments of ratification for the Inter-American Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Persons with Disabilities, and the Basic Agreement for the Nutrition Institute of Central America and Panama. The two instruments were signed in Guatemala City, in June 1999 and August 1998 respectively.
The ceremonies took place in the office of the Secretary General of the OAS, Cesar Gaviria, in the presence of delegation members, senior OAS officials and invited guests.
