The President of the United States, George W. Bush, will visit the Organization of American States (OAS) in Washington, D.C., on Tuesday, April 17, 2001, to address a protocolary session of the OAS Permanent Council.

PRESS CREDENTIALS:

White House Press Credentials will be required for coverage of all OPEN PRESS events. To obtain press credentials, you must FAX (on company letterhead) the following information:

NAME, AFFILIATION (REPORTER, PHOTOGRAPHER, ETC.), DATE OF BIRTH, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

These requests must be FAXED to the OAS Press Office, at (202) 458-6421, no later than 5 p.m., Monday, April 16, 2001. Credentials will be issued for the OPEN PRESS event at the 17th Street entrance of the OAS building on Tuesday, April 17, 2001.

To obtain a press credential, each individual will be requested to produce one of the following forms of identification on site:

1. National, state or local photo press pass,
2. Police or Fire Department issued press pass, or
3. Letter of introduction on organization letterhead (NO FAX OR PHOTOCOPIES WILL BE ACCEPTED) accompanied by a photo ID.

SUMMARY SCHEDULE

The following is a summary schedule for the visit of the President to the OAS in Washington D.C. on April 17, 2001.

8 am - 9:30 am
Media who wish to pre-set their equipment (trucks, tripods, cables, etc.) MUST do so at this time. Members of the media wishing to cover the event are encouraged to pre-set their equipment, as this will expedite set-up once doors open following the sweep. Please park satellite/microwave trucks on the west side of the building (from 17th Street, take the gravel road to the back of the building). Media can pick up credentials and enter from the 17th Street entrance.

9:30 am - 11:30 am
Secret Service sweep

11:00 am - 12:00 noon
Press allowed to re-enter the Press Area.

1:30 pm - 2:20 pm
Protocolary session of the OAS Permanent Council
Photo op before session opens
Permanent Council Chairman, Ambassador of Colombia Humberto de la Calle, declares the meeting open
