MORE OAS OBSERVERS HELP EL SALVADOR

Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic and Turkey are among the latest Permanent Observers to the Organization of American States to join the relief effort for El Salvador in the wake of the devastating January 13 earthquake there.

The Austrian government announced a contribution of $167,000; Germany $1.7 million; the Czech Republic $26,492; and Turkey $30,146. Donations have already been made by Denmark, Spain, Israel, Italy, Finland, Morocco, Norway, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand and the European Union.

To date, more than $15 million in donations have come in from governments, in addition to the contributions from non-governmental organizations, other private institutions and citizens of a number of countries, joining the relief effort for the stricken Central American country.
