PANAMANIAN AMBASSADOR TO REPRESENT
OAS AT
SWEARING-IN OF NEW ARGENTINE PRESIDENT
Panamas Ambassador to the Organization of
American States (OAS), Lawrence Chewning Fábrega, will represent the Organization at the
swearingin of Argentinas new president on December 10. The Panamanian diplomat
is dean of the ambassadors accredited to the hemispheric body.
The OAS Secretary General, César Gaviria, sent
President-Elect Fernando de la Rúa of Argentina a letter to let him know that "for
reasons that require me to be in Washington I will unfortunately not be able to personally
join you for that memorable occasion as I had intended."
In his letter to the new Argentinean leader, Mr.
Gaviria expressed "the OAS hope for the continued close bonds of cooperation and
friendship between the Argentine Republic and our Organization."
