PANAMANIAN AMBASSADOR TO REPRESENT OAS AT
SWEARING-IN OF NEW ARGENTINE PRESIDENT

Panama’s Ambassador to the Organization of American States (OAS), Lawrence Chewning Fábrega, will represent the Organization at the swearing–in of Argentina’s new president on December 10. The Panamanian diplomat is dean of the ambassadors accredited to the hemispheric body.

The OAS Secretary General, César Gaviria, sent President-Elect Fernando de la Rúa of Argentina a letter to let him know that "for reasons that require me to be in Washington I will unfortunately not be able to personally join you for that memorable occasion as I had intended."

In his letter to the new Argentinean leader, Mr. Gaviria expressed "the OAS hope for the continued close bonds of cooperation and friendship between the Argentine Republic and our Organization."
