U.S. ENVOY TELLS OAS THAT BUSH INAUGURATION
SIGNALS TRIUMPH OF INSTITUTIONS OF DEMOCRACY

Announcing to the Organization of American States Permanent Council today George W. Bush will be sworn in next January 20 as the nation's 43rd president, United States Ambassador Luis Lauredo says it signals, "once again, the triumph of the institutions of democracy."

Lauredo noted that Bush's inauguration was another peaceful transfer of executive power--the 53rd consecutive and uninterrupted national election since 1789. Lauredo also told the Council that "as it relates to our relations in this Hemisphere and our efforts at the OAS, there exists a solid foundation for general policy continuity."
