Drug Evaluation Experts To Meet at OAS
Government-appointed experts who will evaluate the effectiveness of the hemispheres anti-drug efforts will meet for the first time next week at the Organization of American States (OAS).
OAS Secretary General C�sar Gaviria and Alberto Scavarelli, who chairs the Inter-American Drug Abuse Control Commission (CICAD), will speak at the inaugural session. It will begin at 9 a.m. on Monday, April 10, in the Hall of the Americas at OAS headquarters (17th St. and Constitution Ave. NW, Washington, D.C.) and will immediately be followed by a press conference.
The experts have been appointed by each of the 34 OAS member countries to implement the Multilateral Evaluation Mechanism, a new tool developed to assess national and regional progress in stemming illegal drug consumption, production and trafficking.
