OAS OFFICIAL TO ADDRESS CARICOM FOREIGN MINISTERS
ON CARIBBEAN-LATIN AMERICA RELATIONSThe Assistant Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Trinidad and Tobago-born Ambassador Christopher R. Thomas, will deliver the keynote address as senior Caribbean Community (CARICOM) foreign service officials gather at Pier One in Chaguaramas, Trinidad, on Saturday for a seminar. The presentation will cover Caribbean-Latin America relations in the twenty-first century.
While in Trinidad and Tobago, Ambassador Thomas will also be addressing CARICOM foreign ministers on Monday, at a luncheon session of their two-day Third Meeting of the Council for Foreign and Community Relations.
Thomas, who this summer wraps up his second five-year term as deputy head of the OAS, has written extensively about Latin America-Caribbean relations and has also addressed numerous conferences and other meetings on the subject, notably during his tenure with the OAS. He is the author of the 1998 book "The OAS in the 50th Year: Overview of a Regional Commitment." His second work, detailing the Western Hemisphere organization's role in shaping regionalism and multilateralism, is due out shortly.
