National authorities and experts in developmental
cooperation of the Member States of the Organization
of American States (OEA) met in Cancun, Mexico for
the purpose of creating dialogue and exchanging
experiences regarding the mechanisms and modalities
of cooperation that can allow for the more effective
use of the OAS as a multilateral organism.
Upon
the termination of this productive meeting, the
participants agreed on a line of action that will
permit them to continue engaging in dialogue while
pursuing various strategies intended to help
strengthen the existing framework for multilateral
and horizontal cooperation and support among
developing countries.
Moreover, the participants emphasized the need to
develop a strategy, in collaboration with Member
States, relevant experts and international entities
that will allow for a more successful articulation
of cooperative development processes within the OAS.
The
OAS, as represented by the Executive Secretariat for
Integral Development (SEDI), will continue to
support the integral process of reflection and
analysis as it seeks to strengthen the
Inter-American Council for Integral Development.
This responsibility, entrusted to SEDI and the OAS
by its Member States, has as its main objective the
strengthening of cooperation for integral
development through the exploration of new avenues
of collaboration among the countries of the
hemisphere.
Colombia has offered to host the next meeting of
authorities and experts in developmental
cooperation.
