Notice of convocation
The General Secretariat of the Organization of
American States is pleased to announce the opening of a Public
Contest to select an official logo to mark the “Inter-American Year of
the Fight against Corruption.”
This Contest is being held pursuant to OAS General Assembly resolution
AG/RES. 2071 (XXXV-O/05), in which the member states declared
2006 to be the “Inter-American Year of the Fight against Corruption,” in
the framework of the Follow-up Mechanism for the Implementation of the
Inter-American Convention against Corruption (MESICIC).
The winning logo may be used by the member states, organs, agencies, and
entities of the OAS, as well as by institutions involved in activities
marking the year’s observance and in other activities associated with
it, within their sphere of competence.
Requirements for participation
The convocation to take part in the Contest is
addressed to nationals of OAS member states. Participants should be over
18 years of age and either undergraduates or postgraduates in
architecture, art, or graphic design.
Participants must submit a certificate of enrolment in an officially
registered academic institution in one of the 34 OAS member states.
Presentation and dispatch of logos
-
Only one design per participant will be accepted.
-
The dimensions must be 8” x 8” (eight inches by
eight inches).
-
The designs may be created in the following
programs:
PC: QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Fireworks, and
Corel Draw.
MAC: QuarkXPress, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Fireworks, and
Corel Draw.
-
Color images in continuous tone or shades of grey
must have a resolution of 300 to 400 dpi/ppi (dots per inch/pixels
per inch). Bitmap images must be at least 300 dpi. Images in bitmap
format, such as scans, photographs, or designs created using
Photoshop must be saved as tif, eps, or the Photoshop format psd.
JPEG (jpg) files must be saved with maximum JPEG quality (300 dpi).
-
Color: Colors must be specified as “Spot” or
“4-color Process” (Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black, CMYK). “Spot” colors
should be taken from Pantone-coasted or HKS-coated (glossy) color
systems. “Spot” colors used in the design that are to be printed
using the “4-color Process” should be converted to their CMYK
equivalent unless they are to be printed using additional colors.
Colors defined in Red-Green-Blue (RGB) mode must be converted into
the CMYK mode.
-
Indentation and trim marks: The design should
stretch ⅛” (3.2 mm) beyond the trim marks (or final size) of the
logo. The trim marks should be placed just outside the indented
area, showing where the printing area ends.
-
Printing area and margins: Keep all text at least
¼” (6.4 mm) inside the final trimmed area. The use of borders or
lines (as part of the design) parallel to the logo trim margins is
not recommended, because the slightest variation in the printing
position could be noticeable. If an outside line is to be used, it
should be placed at least ¼” (6.4mm) or more away from the edge of
the logo. If a solid border or indentation border has to be used
outside the edge of the logo, it must be at least ¼” (6.4mm) thick.
