United Nations Survey on Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems (UN-CTS)
The major goal of the United Nations Survey of Crime Trends and Operations of Criminal Justice Systems (UN-CTS) is to collect, annually, data on the incidence of reported crime and the operations of criminal justice systems with a view to improving the analysis and dissemination of that information globally. The survey results provide an overview of trends and interrelationships between various parts of the criminal justice system to promote informed decision-making in administration, nationally and internationally.
The UN-CTS was reviewed to bring it in line with the International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes (ICCS), and to enable countries to report data for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) indicators for which UNODC is indicated as custodian agency by the United Nations Statistical Commission. This comprehensive consultation process, which also included representatives of relevant regional and international organizations, resulted in the revised UN-CTS 2017 data collection instrument.
