After barmaid Amparo Noguera gets word that her husband, natty but mediocre thief Ramón Llao (a John Waters look-alike), has guessed wrong again on his snatch-and-grab timing and will be sitting it out in Lautaro Prison-where the guards comment sarcastically on the crumminess of his loot-the flashbacks start to unreel: how they met, the arrests, the often angry reunions. Sepúlveda's tragi-comedy changes from light to powerful in an instant, with his complex intercutting and use of extremely long takes-and Noguera's incredible soliloquy to a pair of shoes in a tour de force performance-being particular highlights.

Cuando la mesera Amparo Noguera se entera de que su marido, el elegante pero mediocre ladrón Ramón Llao, ha vuelto a caer en una de sus andanzas y deberá pasar algún tiempo en la prisión Lautaro -donde los guardias comentan sarcásticamente sobre la miseria de su botín- comienza a recordar su pasado juntos: cómo se conocieron, los arrestos y los reencuentros. En un instante, la tragicomedia de Sepúlveda cambia de suave a intensa, con su compleja intercalación de escenas, el uso de tomas extremadamente largas y la increíble actuación de Noguera.
