The Department operates the Foreign Trade Information System. Its purpose is to supply information to the public and private sectors in the OAS member States that will help their products from the region access international markets and that will help businesses make decisions.
The OAS has been a pioneer in computerized foreign trade information. SICE was based on the experience obtained from operating a manual trade information system. Through its data bank, SICE provides exporters, importers and government agencies with additional information about how international markets operate and promotes the hemisphere's foreign trade.
The information enables users to ascertain the tariffs levied on imported products, estimate the size of the import market, consult lists of manufacturers, exporters and importers, marketing and consulting firms and announce their products. SICE also teaches its subscribers' staff how to use the system.
