The countries received cooperation in their efforts to integrate tourism activities in various regions and in the hemisphere. The OAS is cooperating with both the public and private sectors. That cooperation includes support for development of tourism infrastructure.
As part of the training being provided to small tourism businesses under the Plurinational Project on Caribbean Tourism, eight seminar-workshops were held in Belize, the Bahamas and St. Kitts and Nevis, on topics selected by each country's hotel and travel agency association. As part of the effort being made under the project to improve historic and natural tourism attractions, preparation of a plan for managing Fort Charlotte in Nassau, The Bahamas, has been completed.
Under the Plurinational Project on Tourism in the South American Region, a Comprehensive Tourism Development Plan for the Amazon Region is being prepared. Its objectives are to identify and prepare sustainable tourism development projects. The first phase was completed with preparation of a diagnostic study on the general situation in the Amazon region of Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela.
As part of the Plurinational Project on Tourism for the Central American Region, the Central American Tourism Council (CCT) was given support, as was the Secretariat for Tourism Integration of Central America (SITCA) to identify feasible technical cooperation activities. Projects were also devised to build up the Pacific-Coast and volcanic tourism circuits and a manual was prepared on how to sell Central American tourism products.
