In this area, cooperation is being provided on several issues related to the tourism sector, ranging from assistance for developing specific tourism attraction projects to preparation of regional and country-specific master plans.
In Antigua and Barbuda, the revised final report of the Parham Town Master Plan was completed and delivered to the Government.
In Brazil, the Brazilian Amazonia Development Office (SUDAM) received cooperation to conduct the diagnostic phase of the Tourism Development Plan for the Brazilian Amazon Region.
In Costa Rica, as part of the Tourism Micro-entrepreneurs Training Project, the Costa Rican Tourism Institute received cooperation in organizing twelve seminar-workshops, the topics of which were selected by the micro-entrepreneurs in the tourism sector. The various modules that would be used in the training activities were designed.
In Dominica, the activities of the Tourism Awareness Program continued and work got under way to prepare the Plan for reclamation and development of Cabrits National Park.
In El Salvador, technical assistance was given to the Salvadoran Tourism Institute on planning and marketing for national tourism development.
In Guyana, the Department is cooperating on two programs: one involving training and advisory services on management of small tourism businesses and on marketing, to improve the business skills of the micro-entrepreneurial sector, and another on tourism awareness for schools, indigenous communities, the private sector and government agencies that have a direct or indirect influence on the sector. Preparation of Guyana's Integrated Tourism Development Program also got under way.
In Nicaragua, assistance was provided to the Ministry of Tourism to prepare tourism projects at the profile, prefeasibility and feasibility levels, as part of the activities of the Project on Advisory Services on Tourism Development Project Formulation and Evaluation and Marketing the Tourism Product.
In Panama, a Technical Cooperation Agreement was concluded between the General Secretariat of the OAS and the Government to provide support to the Panamanian Tourism Institute for execution of the Panamanian Tourism Development Master Plan.
In St. Kitts and Nevis, the final report of the "Old Road Project" was delivered to the Government and the plan for transforming the Spooners Cotton Mill Estate into a museum and tourism attraction was completed. Execution of the Environment and Tourism Awareness Program continued.
