|Second Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development
In order to contribute to the strengthening of democratic governance and sustainable development in the region through the advances of information and communication technologies, the Department of Sustainable Development of the OAS, in cooperation with the Summit of the Americas Secretariat and the Department of International Affairs (DIA), is hosting a Virtual Forum from September 15 to October 15, 2010. The objective of this consultation is to strengthen and guarantee a wide participation of civil society input into the preparatory process for the Second Inter-American Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development as well as to facilitate the discussion among civil society organizations and other social actors on five issues under the umbrella theme “Towards Sustainable Development in the Americas”:
The Ministerial Meeting will be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, November 2010. This second Ministerial level meeting aims to identify priorities in the hemispheric agenda, address the emerging challenges in sustainable development and to assess the common opportunities for the countries of the region.
Comments and recommendations posted on the Virtual Forum will provide key input to Member States as they advance in the negotiation of the Draft Declaration of Santo Domingo and in preparation for the Second Ministerial Meeting. To this end, recommendations will be compiled in a report that will be presented to Member States Representatives, including Permanent Missions to the OAS.
The Draft Declaration of Santo Domingo will be presented for consideration and approval by Ministers during the Second Inter- American Meeting of Ministers and High-Level Authorities on Sustainable Development, to be held in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, November 2010.
