Preparatory meetings

The first meeting of governmental and independent experts of the Seventh Inter-American Specialized Conference on Private International Law (CIDIP-VII) on the topic of Consumer Protection was held in the city of Porto Alegre, Brazil December 2-4, 2006. During this meeting, the experts analyzed the draft instruments proposed from Brazil, the United States and Canada, reaching consensus on several substantive points and agreeing to continue work on pending issues..

The Delegates from Brazil, the United States and Canada then participated in the Session of the Committee of Juridical and Political Affairs, of the OAS Permanent Council, held on January 18, 2007, to provide a report to the Member States on their respective progress reports on the the Porto Alegre negotiations and the status of CIDIP-VII preparatory work.
