Inter-American Instruments

Under the inter-American system, vulnerable groups, such as Afro-descendants, are afforded protection mechanisms against racism and racial discrimination, in particular by the following international instruments:

1948, American Declaration of the Rights and Duties of Man

1948, Charter of the Organization of American States

1969, American Convention on Human Rights

1988, Additional Protocol to the American Convention on Human Rights in the Area of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (Protocol of San Salvador)

2000, Declaration of the Conference of the Americas (Preparatory meeting for the Third World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance)
