Monetary Restitution
Draft Model Law on
Availability of Consumer
Dispute Resolution and
Redress:
The principal objective of the
proposed draft Model
Inter-American Law on
Availability of Consumer
Dispute Resolution and Redress
for Consumers, presented by
the United States, is the
adoption of effective
mechanisms for consumers to
obtain monetary consumer
redress in
business-to-consumer
transactions. To this effect,
the model law provides common
principles for private and
government assisted dispute
resolution (for both
individual consumer claims and
groups of injured consumers)
within a framework that is
cohesive in its operation but
flexible in its local
implementation.
